Today we began discussing what the Bible says about women in the context of their role in the church and in the family. As we began talking, we emphasized that this is not just a women’s issue, but an issue that affects all followers of Jesus, regardless of gender or denomination.
We remembered from our discussion on violence that, to get to the heart of the matter, we must keep context in mind. Our context for this discussion is that there are a number of passages that, depending on interpretation, have been used historically to oppress women. The question posed is really, as expressed by one of our students, “Is God really saying this or are people making a wrong interpretation of the text?”
We hope that you will take some time this week to either go through the links provided below, or do your own research, and join us next Sunday morning to continue our discussion.
